I typically apprroach learning by following academic curriculum or relying on the advice on the internet seemingly given by the skill practicioner's (Reddit's a good place where to look for it!). This time around I have decided to utilize a little help - Claude. One might wonder why?
I am working in the field of data analytics, however within recent months I have had the need to start to work with BigQuery, specifically its configuration, user permission settings and billing. It is incredibly hard to get full understanding of admin side without the practical knowledge. This is the reason why I have decided to learn Google Cloud. Specifcially aiming for the certificate of Architect.
The instructions I gave to Claude to create a learning curriculum were simple (after descrbing my current background in detail, of course) - "Create a comprehensive low cost or free learning curriculum for Google Cloud Architect certificate with emphasis on Data Science." The essence of the instructions are to create the curriculum full-time job friendly and low or no-cost as it is extracurricular need not directly applicable in current job setting. The curriculum so far has been separated in bi-weekly sections as seen here:

While many already use AI tools of many shapes for learning, and work purposes, there is a caution that has been made around using AI for learning - if the only source of learning happens to be AI tool, and no additional recources or time is used to learn hands-on, it is much more difficult to learn and strengthen the actual concepts and practical skills due to brain not needing to memorize information or skills available at the instant from someone else. However, the tools can be used as efficient learning coaches if used correctly and not as the only source for information or advice.
I will be extremely lazy and quote Claude regarding the impacts of relying on AI as a primary source of learning:
"it helps in the short term but tends to hurt in the long term. Multiple studies show AI can boost immediate performance and comprehension — a meta-analysis of 51 experimental studies found AI has a large positive effect on learning performance, and randomized trials have tested whether tools like ChatGPT improve short-term academic performance and retention compared to traditional resources. But the deeper concern is what happens to retention and thinking skills once AI does the cognitive heavy lifting. A large survey found a significant negative correlation between frequent AI tool usage and critical thinking ability, mediated by increased cognitive offloading, and a controlled writing experiment found significantly lower cognitive engagement in the AI-assisted group — described by the researcher as AI producing "lazier" thinkers. The mechanism researchers point to is cognitive load and desirable difficulty: real learning depends on effortful retrieval, struggle, and error correction, and when AI absorbs that cognitive demand, it can displace retrieval, reduce desirable difficulty, and lead to shallower encoding of information. One controlled study on undergraduates found this concretely — students who used AI directly without first attempting the material themselves showed memory decline with prolonged AI exposure, while those who tried retrieval first before using AI retained more and stayed more engaged — leading researchers to conclude AI should support rather than replace human-driven learning strategies. In short: AI-only learning tends to produce faster answers and higher immediate scores, but weaker durable knowledge, weaker independent problem-solving skills, and more passive acceptance of information — effects that seem to reverse when AI is used to scaffold effort (like testing yourself first) rather than replace it entirely. https://www.ceejournal.com/article_230111_826833672dd4d67ca0ea4cc383af0366.pdf"

The goal for this co-learning is to use it positively for enhancing my own ability to learn, not "just get the certificate for certificate's sake".
I aim to use the Claude generated curriculum and to learn Google Cloud Platform specifically focusing on BigQuery, and I will bring you with me on this journey! The first task of this phase is to break down it in managable pieces and plan execution around daily life - work, household duties and more importantly rest and relaxation to not overstretch my own energy reserves and ability.
